General Electric Earnings, Revenue Top Estimates

General Electric reported quarterly earnings and revenue that beat Wall Street’s expectations on Friday, sending its shares higher in premarket trading.

The world’s biggest maker of jet engines and electric turbines, a minority shareholder in NBC Universal, parent company of CNBC, posted first-quarter profit of 34 cents a share, up from 31 cents a share in the year-earlier period and compared with market expectations of 33 cents a share.

Revenue was $35.18 billion, a decrease from a year ago, after the sale of NBC Universal to Comcast completed but higher than expectations of $34.7 billion.

After the earnings announcement, the company’s shares rose 0.21 percent in trading before the opening bell.
